Access to Justice and Community Education

Tribal courts are created for the community and need to be accessible. Ensuring the community is informed on the services available through the court’s website and establishing clear communication practices between the court and the community all contribute to access to justice.  The mystery of court proceedings and the intimidating reputation of the court can negatively impact the amount of community members who may use the court. This session offers several ideas to create an accessible court and a more informed community on court education.

  • Explain why access to justice is critical during the court development process
  • Learn ideas on how to eliminate barriers with accessibility and costs
  • Give ideas on promoting court education to the community
  • Discuss ideas on how to promote communication between the court and the community
  • Examine ideas on how to receive input from the community for the court
