Tribal Courts 101 for Attorneys

Are you prepared to receive a call to represent a client in tribal court? The United States is home to three judicial systems: federal, state and tribal. Currently, there are over 300 tribal courts across the United States and every year new tribal courts are developing. In recent years, many tribal courts have seen an increase in their caseloads partially due to the expansion of types of cases heard in tribal court. This increase means there could be a need for more attorney representation in tribal court. Attorneys are encouraged to take this session to learn a brief overview about America’s other judicial system and to identify tips to help you prepare for your first court appearance.
